In 2000, Peru adopted the Law on Digital Signatures and Certificates - Law 27269.

Electronic Signature Definitions

Electronic signatures are defined as any electronic symbol utilized or adopted by a party with the intention of authentication a document which complies with all or some of the characteristic function of a handwritten signature - includes the requirements to identify the signatory and guarantee the authentication and integrity of the signed document. Digital signatures are defined as electronic signatures created using a public key cryptographic method, but are not given the benefit of any additional recognition of presumptions. Use of a digital signature requires the use of a certificate. Digital signature must contain data identifying the subscriber the certification company, the holder’s public key and the methodology to verify the subscriber’s digital signatures, a serial number for the certificate and the validly t of the certificate (presumed to mean the period of validity).
